The new driving license has been in circulation in France for nearly ten years. However, it is quite possible that you do not yet have in your possession this small plastic pink card, and that you still use the old paper driver’s license. Indeed, it is only from January 19, 2033 that this latest version will become mandatory for all motorists.
So you still have a good ten years ahead of you, even though the plasticized version offers several advantages over its big sister. As UFC Que Choisir recently reminded us, many scammers make their victim believe, often by sending an SMS, that it is urgent for them to switch to the new licence, at the risk of see a heavy fine imposed. Of course, this is a phishing attempt.
It should therefore be remembered that at present, you can only apply for a new driving license in the event of theft, loss or deterioration of your current licence, or in the context of a change of marital status. .
