One in three businesses don’t even know they’ve been hacked

Cyberattacks are ever more frequent. While they increasingly affect private individuals, large companies remain the most lucrative targets for hackers. A survey conducted by a cybersecurity firm reveals that companies are nowhere near as secure as they should be.

A study published by the company Nozom Networks tells us that morea third of companies that were hacked weren’t even aware of it. They therefore had to be victims of ransomware or receive complaints to realize the extent of the damage. Cyberattacks are now part of our daily lives, but too many companies and organizations feel out of reach, or more simply, unconcerned. We thus remember that during another survey, 24% of the SMEs surveyed also admitted to using pirated software!

According to cybersecurity experts from Nozomi Networks, 35% of companies surveyed could not say at all if they had been the victim of an intrusion or an attack. The statistic is certainly alarming, but it actually hides an improvement in the situation: last year, almost half (48%) of respondents were unaware of the security status of their organization. In addition, almost a quarter of the companies surveyed (24%) could say with certainty that they had not been attacked: their security procedures are in place and effective.

According to this survey, only 29% of companies have implemented a procedure for evaluating their cybersecurity

The number of companies that suffered an attack also fell : it went from 15% of respondents to 10.5%. A statistic that should always be put into perspective, as the IT managers interviewed can sometimes hesitate to confess the truth. According to analysts, the situation is improving. This is due to the awareness that hackers are now firing on all cylinders, and that any poorly protected organization or company is a prime target. We thus remember that pirates had no hesitation last summer in paralyzing a French hospital.

Budgets allocated to cybersecurity are only increasing and corporate IT security engineers are increasingly able to determine whether they have been the victim of an attack. Almost 9 out of 10 companies have assessed the security of their systems, and almost a third (29%) have an ongoing assessment process in place. Cybersecurity professions therefore have a futureas the needs are great.
