Our Readers Talk: Which game was your hardest to finish?

The truth is that, in my case, I have seen myself in that situation more than once, starting a game with great enthusiasm and finding that, in the end, I have tried to squeeze it so much that it has cost me horrors to finish it. It is not usual, since I always usually take action at the moment in which I notice that a game begins to tire me, but with some I did not finish calculating well.

I could give you many examples, but Shenmue is definitely one of them.. When I got hold of the first installment and started playing it on my Dreamcast, I was so blown away by the setting and the graphics that I wanted to explore every corner. I was able to just walk around the stage taking in all the details because, deep down, I was able to get so immersed that I “felt like I was there.”

In the end that became a problem, so much so that I had to take some breaks playing other titles, such as Resident Evil Code Veronica and Metropolis Street Racer, to return to Shenmue with a vengeance. Yes, I managed to finish it, but it took more than I would have imagined at first. With Shenmue II the same thing didn’t happen to me because I didn’t make the same mistake.

Another game that I had a hard time finishing was The Witcher 3. In this case my mistake is similar to the one I made with the first Shenmue, I wanted to explore everything and covering all the side quests, and my interest drained so quickly that I ended up sticking to the main storyline in the end to finish it at a fast pace. It is one of the best games of its kind, but in the end it is clear that everything in excess can get tiring, and that repeating shallow missions continuously for a long time is not a good idea.

I also had moments of certain exhaustion, although less marked, with Cyberpunk 2077, and the truth is that lately sandbox-type games that do nothing more than repeat and repeat mechanics are less and less interesting to me, except for very specific cases, but let’s go to grano, so what has been the game that has cost me the most to finish? Well Shenmue IIIdon’t get me wrong, I really liked the game, but it has a very slow development and approach, and I am at a point in my life where I still enjoy a good story, but I prefer this one to be more dynamic.

Now it’s your turn, what has been the game that has cost you the most to finish? We read in the comments.
