Peugeot e-208: a new cheaper version with 400 km of autonomy on the horizon?

Peugeot has already announced that a revamped version of the e-208, its electric city car, will see the light of day in 2023. However, we have just learned that a new e-208 Like will see the light of day by the end of 2022, with an improved range reaching 400 km. (texashealthagents.com)

Autonomy is the sinews of war in the electric car market. Peugeot has understood this well, and the lion brand has already taken measures to drastically improve the autonomy of the e-208, its electric city car crowned the best-selling car in France during the first half of 2022.

At the beginning of 2022, the manufacturer has already launched a new version of the compact with various improvements, such as the use of new tires and better management of the cabin temperature via an overhaul of the software in charge of heating and air conditioning. These few alterations have allowed the manufacturer to reach 362 km of autonomy.

Nevertheless, the Peugeot e-208 still remained behind its main competitor, namely the Renault Zoé with its 395 km range. Gold and according to the famous site WorldscoopPeugeot intends to remedy this problem even before thee launch of the new version of the e-208still scheduled for 2023 for now.

Peugeot wants to launch a new e-208 with 400 km of autonomy

Indeed and according to internal documents recovered by the site, Peugeot intends to release a new finish for the e-208 by the start of the 2022 school year. Baptized Like, pre-orders would be open from August 19, 2022and this model would show several optimizations to reach the symbolic bar of the 400 km in WLTP cycle.

According to the first elements contained in these documents, Peugeot would have carried out alterations on two central points:

  • First, Peugeot could use 15″ wheels instead of the 16″ wheels currently used (note that this is already the case for the thermal version of the 208)
  • Then, Peugeot could make some optimizations to reduce the consumption of the electric motor

A new electric motor on the program?

According to a user of the Worldscoop forum, one of the avenues envisaged could consist in deletion of Sport mode (136 hp) in favor of a single less energy-consuming mode (Eco at 82 hp or normal at 100 hp).

Furthermore, Peugeot could opt for a new engine block couples to a new battery. This engine would be produced by the Stellantis group (parent company of Peugeot) with Emotors, and its introduction in a Peugeot vehicle is precisely planned for 2022.

Anyway, it’s a safe bet that this new Peugeot e-208 Like will be offered at a price lower than that of the Active finish, currently set at 34,550 euros. Of course, it will be necessary to have an official confirmation before getting carried away.
