Pokémon Scarlet / Purple: a user makes fans dream with a 60 FPS mod on emulator

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet on Nintendo Switch do not shine with their performance, between regular framerate drops, characters who contort for no reason during cutscenes, not to mention Pokémon who suddenly appear on the screen during dialogues. Nevertheless, one user gave fans hope with a 60 FPS mod… Only available on emulator unfortunately.

As you may know, the debut of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the latest installment in Nintendo and Game Freak’s cult saga, is marred by a astronomical amount of bugs and performance unworthy of the Switch.

Players point to regular framerate drops, under 15 FPS. Difficult to accept, especially when you know that the Switch is capable of much better, as evidenced by Zelda Breath of The
Wild and Super Mario Odyssey.

However, the user Theboy181 decided to make fans dream a little by developing a 60 FPS mod that significantly improves the performance of the title. Unfortunately, we use the term dream because this mod was created on a PC emulator, of course. If it is not yet available for download, Theboy181 has published some videos, allowing to attest to the quality of its work.

Pokémon Scarlet/Violet in 60 FPS, an impossible dream on Switch

A first excerpt shows the player crossing the town of Los Platos before starting a fight. The display is fluid, without the slightest jump. The same is true during the clashes, where the attacks follow each other cleanly despite the deluge of special effects on the screen. Of course, we can’t expect such technical quality on the Switch version of the game… Even if we cross our fingers that Game Freak improves overall performance with updates.

The Digital Foundry specialists thoroughly analyzed the studio’s latest production on Nintendo’s hybrid console. Their findings were clear : “Ultimately, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are complete technical failures. Embarrassing graphics, terrible draw distance, poor performance, awful image quality, and a litany of bugs plague this pair of games. Pokemon fans deserve better.” Note that this is obviously not the first time that fans have developed Pokémon stamped mods. We remember, for example, this Pokémon FPS, which Nintendo had removed at lightning speed.
