Right now the popular Reddit website is not going through its best moment, all due to some recent decisions made by its administrators. And it is that on the one hand they have taken the determination to carry out a important change in the policy of use of its API which could lead to the closure of many of your clients and applications. We refer to the decision of the website to put an exaggerated price for the use of the aforementioned API to third-party applications.
To give you an idea of the decision, say that Reddit wants to charge these developers $12,500 for every 50 million requests to its API. For example, the popular client Apollo, which has about 7 billion requests, would have to pay about $20 million to use the API. Needless to say, this would lead to the disappearance of the application. And this is just one of the many affected.
That is precisely why the moderators and administrators of thousands of subreddits decided to shut down their groups for a while. All this to protest against the new API policies and prices. At this point, the Reddit management at the time had two options to deal with the new situation.

Many expected him to announce a reconsideration of the new policy and for third-party apps to continue to exist alongside the official Reddit app. On the other hand, it could have been made even more demanding, as it really has been.
Despite the fact that millions of users joined to protest the changes that we mentioned, the Reddit CEO Mike Huffman, told his employees that the protest would die down soon and that Reddit would not change course. This led to a good part of the temporary closures of the subreddits being extended over time.
And to make matters worse, those responsible for the web portal have now fueled the controversy even more. Reddit has decided to pressure and threaten the moderators involved in the disappearance of the subreddits that were set to private. It must be said that a private subreddit can only be accessed by subscribed members. The only option to enter is to send private messages to the moderator of the group asking to join. Therefore, after putting pressure on these moderators, now Reddit threatens to shut down some communities unless they change the group visibility to public for access from the internet browser.
As it is easy to imagine, this has not sat well with the administrators of the groups themselves, nor with the users who access them regularly. And we are talking about many millions of website visitors.
