Samsung increases the size of the T7 Shield SSD to 4TB

The Samsung T7 Shield is one of our favorite portable SSDs, but it launched with storage capacities that might be a little short for some users. The company solves it now with a new version 4 TByte capacity.

Solid state drives absolutely dominate the internal storage of client PCs, but they are also being used more and more in external solutions where they equally show their great advantages over hard drives. The original Samsung T7 SSD and its ‘Touch’ edition were a good sample. On that basis, Samsung launched a ‘Shield’ variant that indicated where the shots were going.

The drive adds up to everything we could ask for in a modern portable storage unit: performance, durability, safety and maximum mobility to transport it in a pocket, since despite its resistant chassis with IP65 certification against dust, water and falls up to 3 meters, it has a about the size of a credit card and weighing less than 100g.

For external connection, Samsung includes a USB Type-C port and adds USB Type C to Type C cabling as well as another USB Type C to Type A cable to increase compatibility on equipment with earlier versions of the standard. Internally, the port uses USB 3.2 Gen 2 and supports the NVMe interface for high speed, with read-mode data transfers up to 1,050 Mbytes per second.

In addition to external resistance, your security is also reinforced with hardware encryption (256-bit AES) so consumer data can be securely protected even if the drive is lost. It is officially compatible with Windows, Mac, and Android, although it should work with others like Linux and iOS as well. The manufacturer provides the control software “Magician” and an application that allows you to move the operating system and data from an old SSD for free.

The new 4TB version of the Samsung T7 Shield is now available in select markets, with beige, grey, pink, black and blue color finishes, and an official price of $429. This unit from Samsung is very good, although there are other outstanding alternatives such as the SanDisk Extreme SSD that we analyzed some time ago and that have an even lower price.

If you don’t need that much capacity, you can save a good amount by opting for the 1 or 2 Tbyte versions, which in Spain you can buy at a discount at some retailers. from 147 euros.
