Samsung is finally working on a fix for the blurry photos bug

It took several months before Samsung recognized that its Galaxy S23s were victims of a bug that spoiled their photos. Indeed, a blurred area systematically appears when the shot is captured a little too close. The Korean manufacturer has claimed that a fix is in development.

If you have a Galaxy S23, you may have noticed a slight flaw in some of your photos. Indeed, since March, users have been overwhelmingly reporting that certain areas are consistently blurred in their images. The shape is variable, being able to look like a banana or a donut. However, since all this time, Samsung has been careful not to confirm, or even to communicate on the problem.

It was finally last Wednesday that the manufacturer decided to break its silence. In a blog post on the Polish version of its community site, the firm admitted that its latest smartphones have a serious problem with their main 50 MP sensor. “You may have noticed that when taking a close-up photo, the area around the subject looks a bit blurry,” Samsung writes.

Samsung will finally fix the blurry photo bug on the Galaxy S23

“This is because the wide-angle sensor of the S23 and S23+ has a bright aperture, which makes it easier to take pictures in the dark. However, this also means that the more visible selective focus can make the background of your photos look a little blurry”, says Samsung. The concern is therefore indeed material, as we have suspected since its inception.

But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a solution. First, the manufacturer recommends stand back at least 30 cm from the subject of the photo, which will allow for better focusing. Afterwards, hold the smartphone vertically can also improve rendering, unlike a horizontal or diagonal photo.

But above all, Samsung “plans to fix this issue in a future software update”, according to the blog post. The concern is therefore not inevitable, since a future version of the firmware should correct all these defects. It remains to be seen when it will be available.
