Sony introduces its WF-1000XM5 wireless headphones

Sony WF-1000XM5 are the new wireless headphones from the Japanese firm and arrive with better sound quality, superior noise cancellation and a more comfortable design than the current XM4 series.

The wireless headset market continues to grow once mobile manufacturers have stopped including typical wired headsets in the sale of their new models. Sony has been offering some of the best models in the industry under the successful 1000X series and the new model maintains that premium line. According to the first analyses, they sound luxurious and they are some of the best earbuds in the industry.

Sony has focused on improving three key points: noise cancellation, sound quality and call quality. The headphones premiere the Sony’s new integrated V2 processor, with support for high-resolution (24-bit) audio, LDAC and DSEE Extreme codec processing, as well as 360 Reality Audio for surround sound. sony promises “wide frequency reproduction, deep bass and clear vocals, just like you’re in a studio with your favorite artists”.

It adds a dedicated noise cancellation sub-processor, the QN2e. This dual processor setup is beneficial for both sound quality and noise cancellation. The headphones have 8.4mm drivers what Sony calls “Dynamic Driver X” and dual-feedback microphones that can monitor noise at lower frequencies. A major improvement over the 6mm of the XM4, extending to the active noise cancellation system with bone conduction sensors and new algorithm.

Regarding design, they are 25% smaller and 20% lighter than the XM4. The ear cushions are made of a soft and elastic polyurethane foam material, which seeks to improve adherence to the ear canal, eliminating spaces to isolate sound and reduce noise. Indicate that they have head tracking technology, which adjusts the sound field to compensate for movement in a technology that we already saw in the Razer Leviathan V2 Pro sound bar.

The autonomy of the Sony WF-1000XM5 is estimated at 8 hours with active noise cancellation. They maintain the charging case design that increases autonomy up to 16 hours with ANC. The headphones will be able to charge wirelessly Qi and via USB-C. A charge of just three minutes will offer 60 minutes of use in music playback. Like the previous ones, they are IPX4 certified for resistance to water, splashes or rain.

The Sony WF-1000XM5 are already available to pre-order on the Sony website and at some international retailers with silver or black finishes and with an official price of $299. They are expected to arrive in Spain in August for 329 euros. Premium price for one of the best in-ear headphones on the market.
