The Google Pixel 8 camera will be much better than the Pixel 7

Although we expected some progress on the Pixel 8 in the past Google I / O 2023It seems that technology thought that many new devices had already been concentrated, with the Pixel 7a, the Pixel Tablet and the expected Pixel Fold, so it preferred to reserve it for later. Let’s remember that last year, the then still unpublished Pixel 7 were advanced at Google I / O 2022, despite the fact that they would not reach the market until October.

It is also possible that, after the experience of last year, they have considered that showing a generation for the first time four months before it goes on sale is too early, and that consequently have decided to reconsider the calendar of advances, announcements, etc., which would certainly make a lot of sense. But, in any case, what we can expect is that the Google Pixel 8 will hit the market in the first weeks of autumn this year, probably at the beginning of October.

So, and although the summer break will also be noted in this sense, We expect new leaks over the next few monthsWell, although the Pixels have never reached the category of best sellers, they are devices that, generation after generation, are gaining followers, in addition to generating a lot of curiosity among many other users who, despite not considering their purchase, do want to be informed about the latest from Google in the smartphone market.

Although its arrival is still months away, we have already seen some leaks about the Pixel 8, such as the one that pointed to the use of a custom AMD Radeon GPU or the one that points to a continuous design line, although with small changes. Added to the previous ones is a new leak, published by Android Authority, which reveals many aspects about the Google Pixel 8 camera. And based on these data, we can expect a very significant improvement.

The Google Pixel 8 camera will be much better than the Pixel 7

It is well known that Google places a lot of weight on photographic computing technology to substantially improve the quality of captures, and that this has brought excellent results. However, the improvement of the physical elements of the equation, that is, the camera sensors, also play a determining role. Thus, for future Pixel 8, both the standard version and the Pro model, Google is going to replace the wide-angle Samsung GN1 with the newer Samsung GN2, of the same resolution (50 megapixels) but larger. This translates into its ability to capture about 35% more lightwhich translates into brighter shots and shorter exposure times.

The Google Pixel 8 Pro, for its part, will also experience a significant improvement in its ultra-wide angle, going from the 12-megapixel Sony IMX386 in the 7 Pro, to a brand new Sony IMX787 of none other than 64 megapixels and that it is capable of providing a level of 0.49x zoom, compared to the factor of 0.56x of its predecessor. In the standard Pixel 8, the IMX386 will be maintained, although its zoom level has been modified, becoming 0.55x compared to the 0.67x factor of the Pixel 7.

According to this leak, there will be no hardware change to the telephoto lens of the Pixel 8 Pro, the 48-megapixel Samsung GM5 with 5x zoom ratio, and neither in the front camera sensor of both models, the 11-megapixel Samsung 3J1. However, that does not mean that we should not expect news in this regard because, as I mentioned before, the photographic computing functions are, in the Pixels, one more element of the camera.
