The Motorola Defy Satellite Link brings satellite messaging to any phone

Apple launched a satellite connectivity function on the iPhone 14 that allows smartphones to send emergency messages (SOS) when cell service is not available. The rest of the manufacturers will follow in the footsteps of the Cupertino firm and we already know plans from Samsung, Qualcomm or MediaTek. The Motorola Defy Satellite Link that has been presented in Barcelona has this function and can be used on any mobile phone.

The device (a dongle as you will see in the images) uses a MediaTek 6825 “Bullitt” chip that supports it and does exactly what has been said: connects to any Android or iPhone smartphone through Bluetooth and, if necessary, it allows sending emergency messages through satellite connectivity.

The Motorola Defy Satellite Link is specially designed for natural outdoor use and is therefore prepared to operate in any certified environment. IP68 resistance against dust and water, in addition to working with extreme temperatures and offering several days of autonomy thanks to a 600 mAh rechargeable battery.

From there, owners will use the app Bullitt Satellite Messenger for communicating. While it’s a full-fledged app that works over Wi-Fi and cellular, it will connect to a satellite to send out SOS messages when needed. If the recipient does not have the app, they will receive an SMS text message directing them to download it before they can handle the satellite SOS message.

This device can also be used for share exact location in case of emergency, while an “SOS Assist” function will allow direct communication with emergency response centers associated with FocusPoint International. Plus, a dedicated “record” button on the device will ping the location even when you’re not connected to a phone.

A good option is this Motorola Defy Satellite Link for use with any iOS and Android phone, until new models include built-in satellite connectivity. It has a price of 99 dollars that are justified to solve any problem you have in an adventure.
