The new Bing is now available on smartphones… and on Skype

Although Microsoft is moving very fast with regard to the new version of Bing which, as you already know, integrates a chatbot based on the Prometheus artificial intelligence model, jointly designed by Microsoft and OpenAIthere is something that I admit had surprised me so far, and that is that the great evolution of its search engine was only available for desktop systems, that is, for computers.

I say that I was surprised because it is more than well known that mobile devices, mainly smartphones, are a priority objective for many technology companies, because they have displaced the PC and have become the most used device on a day-to-day basis for a huge number of users. Whether in reference to websites, browsers or information search engines on the network, the policies mobile first They have been a practically universal constant for some time now.

However, up to now, the only way to access chatbot from Bing was through Microsoft Edge on desktop. If you accessed the Bing app for Android or iOS, you could see information about the new Bing, and even a link to sign up for the waiting list (even if you were already part of it or even if you already had access to the beta). , but it was not possible to chat with the search engine AI in the way that it was possible to do it from Windows.

This, fortunately, has changed. Microsoft today released updates to the Bing and Edge apps for Android and iOS, bringing you the new Bing now.As long as you’ve already gained access to the beta, of course. Thus, if you can already access it and have updated any of these apps, you can start testing the implementation of this technology on smartphones and, at least after a first test, it seems like a good job.

The most notable point is, without a doubt, that just as it happens on the desktop, we can also write our queries, but in this case we will also have the possibility of asking our questions by voice. In addition, in such a case, if we opt for voice, we will also get the response in said format, that is, in addition to the written response, Bing will also read it for us. This gives the chatbot greater utility, since we can use it by voice on all those occasions in which it is not possible for us to write the query or read the answer to it.

It must be clarified, however, that although the new Bing with Prometheus is already accessible from Microsoft Edge for Android and iOS, this does not mean that the expected co-pilot mode for the browser is already available, but that we can access from it to the web version of Bing and, in it, use the chatbot in the same way that we would from the native Bing app.

On the other hand, and I am speaking here from personal experience, it is possible that when accessing Bing from the Edge app, initially the system does not recognize that you already have access to the beta and, consequently, offer to join the waiting list. In this case, click to register and, in this way, the system will confirm that you have already been invited and, therefore, you can now also use the chatbot from the browser.

But that is not all, as we have indicated at the beginning, the new Bing, or its chatbot to be more exact, He has also made the leap to Skype. And what does this mean? Well, now we can also access queries to the AI from conversations (yes, also from groups) in Microsoft’s text and voice communication service. As the company indicates, in this way we can satisfy doubts that arise in the context of the conversation without having to leave it, which undoubtedly seems most convenient.

In recent weeks we have seen how some third-party services have appeared to integrate ChatGPT in WhatsApp, a very tempting option but, as I said, it depends on third parties. However, if Microsoft decides to extend the reach of its bot to other instant messaging and communication services, this could cause its usage volume to grow exponentially, as well as its visibility and reputation.
