Among the many easter eggs and nods to the Spider-Man universe, Jon Watts hid a detail about one of the upcoming Marvel films.
Spider-Man: No Way Home was a big chunk for Ideas House and Sony. Third installment of the adventures of Peter Parker, it was also the first film to explore the mysteries of the Marvel multiverse on the big screen, before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Sony has also not skimped on the winks and references to Spider-Man and his various incarnations in the cinema.
But among all those easter eggs, one caught the eye of a Reddit user. Indeed, in a sequence devoted to the Daily Buggle, we can indeed see a banner scrolling on the channel chaired by J. Jonah Jameson. It is written there that “Political unrest in New Asgard emerges as Z…” If we will not have the sequel to the screen, King EuronIIIGreyjoy has his little idea of what this short sequence could mean.
As a reminder, New Asgard was briefly introduced in Avengers: Endgame. After the destruction of their kingdom, the people of Thor made their home in a small Norwegian town. It is in fact to Valkyrie that the throne was entrusted.
Zeus sows chaos?
The plot of Love and thunder is still very mysterious. We know in essence that the story will be centered around Gorr the God Butcher, played by Christian Bale. In the comics, the character was born on an unnamed planet whose inhabitants worshiped gods they had never seen. When his family dies, he swears to kill these divine figures who did nothing to prevent this tragedy.
He will obviously go in search of Thor, who will be able to count on the Guardians of the Galaxy and his friends to get him out of this mess. He should also cross paths with other gods from different mythologies, which would explain the appearance of the letter Z on the banner of the Daily Bugle. Indeed, one can easily imagine that this sequence refers to Zeus, his presence in the casting having been confirmed by Russell Crowe this summer.
In an interview, he said: “It’s my last day as Zeus and I’m going to enjoy it”. Statements that leave little room for doubt. It will nevertheless be necessary to wait until July 13, 2022 to discover Zeus in the flesh.
Spider-Man: No Way Home tops $ 1 billion
Ahead of a busy year for Marvel, the MCU’s newest addition sets a theatrical record. Spider-Man: No Way Home just surpassed $ 1 billion in box office revenue. In its first weeks of operation, Jon Watts’ film established itself as the highest grossing film of the year 2021. It thus exceeds To die can wait, Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Fast and Furious 9. It also stands out as the best start for a Spider-Man movie.
