Users of Fractal, the new NFT gaming platform, victims of a scam

A hard blow for users of Fractal, NFT’s very young exchange platform. Several of them have been the victims of a scam that has cost them thousands of dollars.

Launched in early December by Justin Kan, the co-founder of Twitch, Fractal quickly exceeded 100,000 users interested in the platform’s proposition: the sale and purchase of NFT representing elements that come from video games.

Loot of $ 150,000

Communication and exchanges in the Fractal community take place mainly in its Discord. A few days ago, a message announcing that “mint” NFTs, ie tokens never sold, were going to be available for purchase, all with a link to connect to the offer. As this type of brand new NFT is particularly popular with buyers (much more than second-hand NFTs), many Fractal users have fallen for it.

The URL was indeed leading to a proper phishing. After logging into the malicious site, the victims gave their wallet information containing Solana (SOL), the cryptocurrency used on Fractal. It is estimated that $ 150,000 has been stolen.

Difficult to blame users of the platform, the link in question having been posted on the official Discord. A priori, there was therefore every reason to have confidence. The platform, which will compensate the 373 victims (0.3% of the community), recalls a rule of common sense: if something seems too good in crypto, you should not rush into it even if it seems legitimate. ” We must use our best judgment, since there is no “Cancel” button in crypto “. A piece of advice to always keep in mind.
