The Witcher Project Sirius Hasn’t Been Canceled

A few months ago we found out that CD Projekt Red’s plans regarding The Witcher are really ambitious, which is undoubtedly excellent news for all of us who, at some point, have enjoyed the saga that led the Polish study to become a reference in the sector. It is true that today, and after the redemption of Cyberpunk 2077, it is the latter that stars in much of the news related to the study, but we can be clear that when the saga is restarted, which we learned about by first time a year ago, it is more than likely that the situation will be reversed in this regard.

As I was saying, CD Projekt Red already announced, in October of last year, that it has no less than three releases related to the saga on the agenda: the already named reboot of the saga, which from what we know will not feature Geralt de Rivia as the protagonist ; Canis Mayoris, an open world RPG that will retain the setting of the world of The Witcher; and Project Sirius, developed by The Molasses Flooda different project from the restart of the saga and that would focus on the campaign and multiplayer modes.

However, in the middle of the month and during a conference with investors, CD Projekt Red claimed it was rethinking Project Siriussomething that was interpreted by many, immediately, as the studio had decided to put an end to the production of this title, therefore leaving the new The Witcher games (that is, those that expand the universe, not them). remakes) in two, the already announced reboot and Canis Mayoris, about which there is no good or bad news at the moment.

The Witcher Project Sirius Hasn't Been Canceled

However, the truth is that the study spoke of reassessment, not cancellation, despite the fact that for many people both terms seem synonymous. The good news is that, to undo the wrong, CD Projekt Red have confirmed that The Witcher Project Sirius is still alive, as we can read on IGN. In other words, in this case reassessment means exactly what it should mean, instead of being used to avoid a more forceful term, such as cancel.

According to said information, what has happened is that its development has been restarted, which as I have indicated before was in the hands of The Molasses Flood. «So this is a project that, I would say, is internal. It is also new to us in terms of layout and format. For those reasons, it’s very different from the big productions we’re known for. To stay competitive, we have to keep looking for new ways to expand our franchises.“, said Adam Kiciński, President and Deputy CEO of CD Projekt Red.

And what does it mean that it is an internal project? The first reading is that the company has decided to withdraw the project from The Molasses Flood to internally assume its development, either because the results that the external developer was offering were not satisfactory, due to the need to reduce costs or because Project Sirius has gained specific weight. in the company’s plans with The Witcher. The most important thing, however, is that we can expect that new title in the future.
