But next we are going to talk about the nature of this new scam so that you can avoid it if you find yourself in the unpleasant situation of receiving this message. To give you a more approximate idea, the attackers pretend to be your bank through a text message that reaches the mobile in form of SMS. In theory it is a supposed security alert from our bank to make us bite.
It is not a charge notice from your bank, it is a scam
However, more than notifying us of anything, what this text message is really trying to do is get hold of our bank access details to steal our money. To give you an approximate idea of what we are telling you, this text message informs us of an alleged charge on our account for an amount of €986.45.
Of course, for this scam to be successful among the largest username possible, the attackers send a message very similar to the one that could come from our bank. At first it seems that it is personalized and informs us of an account charge of a figure close to 1000 euros. This message is similar to the one that we receive when we make a charge from the credit or debit card for informational purposes.
It is worth mentioning that scams of these characteristics have been detected in certain entities such as Caixabank, Bankinter or Abanca. With everything and with it, that does not prevent the scam from spreading to other banks, so we should not trust ourselves. Obviously if we do not have an account in that entity, we will immediately realize that it is a scam.
What to do about this bank scam
But if it happens that we have an account in the bank specified in the SMS, they can enter us into doubts. It is worth mentioning that if we click on the link attached to the message, it will redirect us to a malicious website where they will try to get our bank access credentials.
Therefore, and in order to avoid this type of fraud, the first thing we must do is be wary of those who are related to the money and that from the outset they are already suspicious. Before providing our access credentials to any SMS with these characteristics, it is best to call the bank and make sure of the charge.
Likewise, if the circumstance occurs that we have already stung the scam, the best thing we can do is go to the State Security Forces and Bodies to inform them. All the procedures and movements that we do with our bank, we must carry them out from the official application of the same.
