Ubuntu with real-type kernel arrives in the AWS Marketplace cloud

Ubuntu with real kernel type (Ubuntu Pro 22.04 LTS) is now available in the AWS Marketplace and arrives to meet customer requests. have this version in the cloudas announced by Canonical.

Canonical announced the general availability of the Ubuntu real-time kernel last February. A solution for companies that work in contexts such as cloud computing, edge computing, IoT, 5G, Industry 4.0, autonomous vehicles or artificial intelligence and that need strict low latency requirements.

His arrival at the Cloud was planned and what better than hosted by the world leader in cloud computingAmazon Web Services, for the moment the only option that will be available to manage this Ubuntu in real time from the cloud.

“Canonical Real-Time Ubuntu marks a significant advancement in the domain of software-defined solutions, facilitating rapid development and seamless deployment.”explains Edoardo Barbieri, Product Manager at Canonical. “With inclusion in AWS Marketplace, OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers can now structure their software-defined strategies based on reliable and secure open source cloud solutions.”.

Ubuntu with kernel in real type, security and profitability

Given the increase in cyber attacks globally due to increased digitalization, Canonical provides critical and high security CVE patches for the realtime kernel by default. To ensure maximum protection, patches are automatically applied to the system at runtime and updated images are released daily ensuring that every new instance launched is secure from the start. Additionally, because kernel CVE patches are automatically applied at runtime, the need for reboots is eliminated.

The real-time kernel is offered to all Ubuntu 22.04 LTS users subscribed to Ubuntu Pro. It is based on Linux 5.15, integrates patches from PREEMPT_RT maintained by the Linux Foundation to reduce latencies in the most demanding workloads and is available for x86 and ARM architectures.

As businesses around the world have come to rely on data, real-time processing is quickly becoming a necessity to remain competitive. And the more data a company has, the more real-time processing it will need. The same applies to industrial computers that control control systems, edge servers, robots and even drones. These systems require real-time kernel capabilities to be able to process data as quickly as possible.

With Ubuntu with real-time kernel, this is not only possible but also reliable and cost-effective. The typical price for Ubuntu Pro 22.04 LTS with real-time kernel is currently $0.072 per hour. For more information, you can check the product page on the AWS Marketplace.
