Remember, a few months ago, Free multiplied the promises and announced the imminent arrival of VoWiFi. Almost five months later, the operator is back to confirm the availability of this option on its network. On Twitter, the official Free 1337 account confirms the activation of the VoWiFi service and details the conditions for accessing this technology.
The mobile operator first announces that you must have a 5G plan to benefit from it. You must therefore have opted for the package at 19.99 euros per month; or 15.99 euros/month for Freebox subscribers and 9.99 euros/month for Pop subscribers. If the subscription is prior to November 2021, the user must send “volte” by SMS to 1337. For 5G packages subscribed recently, i.e. since last November, the feature is activated by default.
The VoWifi service is available and activated.
To benefit from it, you must have a 5G plan, activate the service on your line and activate the “Wifi calls” option on your phone.

How to benefit from this service?
To check if the option is activated on your phone, you must go to the settings. On an iPhone, this happens in Settings then Cellular Data and finally Wi-Fi Calling.
On Android, the method varies depending on the brand of your smartphone. The option is located on the side of the phone application on the Samsung Galaxy or in the SIM card settings for Xiaomi or Google Pixel models.
You may not be able to enable VoWiFi calling yet. Indeed, the option is not yet available on all smartphones and updates are expected. “We are actively working with Samsung and other manufacturers to quickly provide updates for phones that do not have the VoWifi Free service available today”, Explain Free. The operator ensures that an update schedule “will be announced soon”.
The Univers Freebox site confirms that access is limited to “some models”. OnePlus devices are already compatible while subscribers who have a Xiaomi smartphone must perform some manipulations. It is necessary to activate the option on his line at 1337, then dial *#*#869434#*#* on his device. Then you can check if the service is enabled by dialing *#*#4636#*#*.
What is VoWiFi?
VoWiFi is therefore arriving at Free Mobile, but you still need to know what it is. This technology offers to use the wifi network to transmit your 4G or 5G calls and your SMS/MMS. The service is compatible via the network of your home, workplace or any other place with a wifi network.
When the phone is not able to pick up a mobile network, or too weakly, it will automatically switch to Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi). The other advantage of WiFi calls is to be able to improve call quality, even in difficult conditions. VoWiFi should not be confused with VoLTE, which has also been available from Free for a few months.
