WhatsApp will allow you to record video “without hands”

No, no, I wish the WhatsApp engineers had found a way to prevent part of our fingers from getting too close to the camera by mistake and, consequently, appearing on one of the sides of the photo or video we are taking. . No, actually I mean something much simpler but that, nevertheless, will mean excellent news for those users who are in the habit of using the WhatsApp client’s photo and video capture function and then sharing them through the same service.

Until now, the WhatsApp camera function has worked as follows: a press on the shutter button (the button shown in the lower center of the screen) takes a photo, while to record a video we will have to hold our finger pressing that button throughout the recording. Although it may sound original, and it could even make sense if we are talking about physical controls, in this context it seems like a mistake in every way.

For example, if you are holding the mobile with one hand, you will have to force the position of it a lot to simultaneously press and continue to hold the phone firmly. In addition, it makes it impossible for you to put the mobile to record (for example on a tripod) and release it to record yourself, either alone or in company. In short, as a concept it might sound good, but when put into practice it is a solution totally at odds with usability.

Fortunately, those responsible for the company have decided to put an end to such nonsense and, as we can read in WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is testing a new “hands-free” video recording mode, that is to say, that it will no longer be necessary to keep the button pressed for the entire duration of it. To this end, as we can see in the image above, and just like many other camera applications already offer, before carrying out the desired action we can select between photography and video. In this way, we will only have to press to start the recording and we will no longer have to worry about the phone until we want to stop it.

As we can read, this new camera function It was already in development last year, so it was expected that its launch would have occurred earlier, but for unknown reasons it has not started testing in WhatsApp public betas so far. Of course, when looking for explanations for things, I would start by asking what Meta has had in mind up to now to maintain such a reprehensible design in terms of usability.
