will the connected watch be entitled to Google Assistant?

A new report has just appeared concerning the possible release of a connected watch from Google’s side.

Google is preparing its arrival in the world of connected watches. While the buyout of Fitbit was made at the start of the year, the firm might want to produce its own connected watch, in order to create a real ecosystem around its smartphone: the Pixel. According to the first rumors about it, this watch could quickly become the number 1 attraction at Google, with nothing less than the goal of competing with the untouchable Apple Watch.

According to a report from the news site 9to5Google, the watch should see the light of day soon. The latter will be powered by a chip from Samsung, Google obviously does not plan to transpose its Tensor chip which has just arrived on the Pixel 6 on the first generation of watches of the brand.

Google Assistant is also coming to watches

But the most important thing according to this report is that this watch should support Google Assistant. The news site claims to have found a feature tag called “PIXEL_EXPERIENCE_WATCH” within a Google application. Very interesting information, especially when you consider that previous Google Pixel phones all contained close, if not similar, feature tags.

The report of 9to5Google therefore explains that the arrival of this tag on a possible next Google watch would be a further sign to show that the next Google smartwatch will have exclusive features, at least compared to its competitors on Android.

The rest of the report explains that the code name “Rohan” which seems to designate the connected watch project at Google was also found in the new generation assistant. As a reminder, the latter, which arrived with the Pixel 4, provides access to certain features offline.

Not everyone is of the same opinion

However, we must be wary of these rumors, which are quite contradictory at the moment. Indeed, the report of 9to5Google came out just a few weeks after that of Business insider, which drew much less optimistic conclusions about the next connected watch from Google.

Indeed, in his report Business Insider wasn’t even sure Google was going to launch a smartwatch in the next few months.
