The National Institute of General Medical Sciences of the United States says that the blue light emitted by the screens of electronic devices affects melatonin and therefore disturbs the sleep of the person using the device late at night. Does that mean that watching a series before going to sleep can affect our rest? That’s right, but don’t worry, because Samsung has thought about it.

Blue light and circadian rhythms

The circadian cycle of a person is the set of physical, mental and behavioral changes that are repeated in a 24-hour cycle. According to science, these natural processes respond mainly to light and dark, so they can be manipulated in certain situations. The problem is that they can be modified voluntarily or involuntarily, hence in our day to day there are factors that are affecting without us knowing it.

In recent years, brands have been making users aware of this issue, and for this, device manufacturers are offering the possibility of reduce the halo of blue light emitted by screens so as not to affect the night rest. The solution is a color mode that adjusts the white balance to a warmer tone, while also reducing brightness so as not to glare in the dark.

Well, that same principle has reached Smart TVs with the so-called eye comfort mode. This mode takes care of adjusting the brightness and color temperature based on outdoor conditions to mimic natural light as much as possible. In this way, it is possible to take care of the circadian rhythm by affecting less melatonin secretion.

In addition, with the idea that everything remains more official, Samsung has received the “Circadian Rhythm Display” certification from the German institute Verband Deutsched Elektrotechniker (VDE) that guarantees the manufacturer’s commitment to the development of technology with the health of the consumers.

What models are supported?

The problem is that to control these parameters and offer this function, the Smart TV must have light sensors that are capable of analyzing the environment, in addition to including the necessary software to apply the settings immediately. For that reason, not all models will offer Eye Comfort. To be exact, the models that will include the mode are the NEO QLED Q70C and higher versionsincluding also the entire Lifestyle range with The Frame, The Serif and The Sero. This means that the most basic range of Smart TV is left without this function.
