You don’t need a stove for the cold, your PC can give you warmth

There are two contradictory tendencies, but they coexist at the same time in the PC world. On the one hand, we have architectures that are increasingly efficient in terms of electricity consumption, and on the other, we find that processors, graphics cards and other components consume more and more. The result? There are some PCs that are a stove and this has positive or negative consequences depending on the time of year.

We are in a period of hot soup and blanket, that is, it’s fucking cold. So the fact of being with our computer means that it increases the ambient temperature of our room. At the current time of year this is appreciated, since those extra degrees allow us to stay warm. However, this is a problem for hot seasons and climates.

Is it good that PCs become a stove?

If when you run your hand through the air vents of your PC you notice hot air, then don’t worry, your computer’s cooling system works fine, since its job is to blow the hot air out of the case and keep the interior at a suitable temperature. Obviously, if we have a high-end PC with components that consume a lot of light, we find that the amount of heat released is higher. The result? Free heating in winter, but hell in summer.

And this is where the problem comes in, we must start from the fact that the fans renew the air from the one in the room where the PC is located. If it turns out to be too hot, then the ability to lower the temperature drops and the consumption regulation mechanisms are activated. Which are? Well, those of drop in speed and loss of performance.

The solution that we have seen proposed to this problem? Installing an air conditioner, which means an extra cost for the user and the electricity bill. To us, such an answer seems mean, especially due to the fact that it is in hot climates that the economy of people is usually more modest. So if having a PC stove in winter is nice, it has its obvious contraindications in summer.

clean the pc please

By the way, we remember that the increase in dust inside the box means an increase in its internal temperature, so before it becomes a stove, we recommend that you clean it thoroughly from time to time. Your computer and your pocket will thank you in the long run.

Win on paper, to lose in reality

One of the marketing teams’ obsessions is wanting to prove that the latest processor or graphics card wins in performance tests. That is why they ask engineers to design models capable of reaching high energy consumption and supporting them to say that the new model is more powerful than the competition and to be able to sell it more expensive. However, this is a double-edged sword that is considerably increasing the consumption of certain designs and not only results in a problem with regard to the temperature that derives from the PC stove.

The problem is aggravated when we take into account that part of humanity lives in areas of the planet where having a PC with a source above 1000 W is a bad idea. The fact of increasing consumption upwards to win on paper or in a review of the competition can have negative effects, especially if we end up with a system whose performance is variable depending on the season and place in the world where you use it.
