80% of employees demand greater flexibility to telecommute

Flexibility It is the greatest demand that Spanish employees have, especially in everything related to teleworking. This is reflected byTo new Guide to the hybrid working model made by Robert Waltersconsulting firm specializing in the search and specialized selection of middle managers and managers at a global level.

This guide gathers the concerns of thousands of professionals, in addition to the impressions of the group’s expert cabinet, regarding the implications brought by the new world of work and the new hybrid work modalities.

The Hybrid Opportunity

Traditionally, most large companies rely on a traditional model: one in which employees meet at a corporate headquarters with a fixed schedule. However, the advent of hybrid work has caused the 85% of professionals expect more flexibility to work from home in the future (Robert Walters Global Labor Survey).

Taking into account that this same study indicates that 78% of professionals would be more likely to join a company that offers hybrid work models, companies must develop new models that attract and retain the best talent. Thus, as Alberto Muñoz, director of the technology & digital division at Robert Walters, comments: “To the extent possible, it is recommended that organizations make it easier for their employees to choose which work model they want to take advantage of based on their personal and professional circumstances. Highly talented professionals are more likely to join a new company when they are confident that the organization will enable them to be innovative and productive. For employees, this means that their ideas will be heard and they will be equipped to deliver results.”.

For companies, the fear that people will lose a sense of connection with the organization and its teams is a given. To prevent this while boosting productivity and innovation, many have developed solutions such as:

  • Internal networks that strengthen relationships between workers, adopting new emerging technologies.
  • Train team leaders to maintain motivation.
  • Empower introverts to feel more comfortable working remotely.
  • Seize the moment and promote spontaneous creativity through digital tools.

The most valued: flexibility

For many professionals who have embraced the hybrid work model, the blurring the lines between home and work bill has passed. Not only 85% of workers globally stated that their well-being decreased (Harvard Business Review), but also that 54% of the global workforce feels overworked and 39% feels burned out (Microsoft Survey).

“A high prevalence of burnout and stress among workers suggests that many companies need to do more to maintain the mental health and well-being of staff. The flexibility in the hybrid work model goes both ways, as it can be a highly valuable asset in attracting and retaining a more diverse, productive and healthy talent. In short, both professionals and organizations must find a balance in a hybrid work model that adapts to particular jobs and individual work styles, without forgetting that it is a model that must be flexible and must be tested, measured and improve continuously”concludes Alberto Muñoz.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led companies and professionals to adopt a combination of face-to-face work and remote work in a rush, which is directly related to possible risks, gaps, inefficiencies and hidden threats.
