Ruby is the only member of a deaf family who can hear. Hence the name of the film: CODA stands for “child of deaf adults” (son of deaf parents).

Her life revolves around acting as an interpreter for her parents and working on the family’s fishing boat every day before leaving for school. But when Ruby Joins her high school choir club, discovers a gift for singing, and is attracted to her duo partner Miles.
