Almost half of young people in Catalonia are entrepreneurs

According to data from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) 2021-2022, Catalonia is considered the center of new ventures. This autonomous community leads entrepreneurial activity in Spain, with 7.2% of the population involved in businesses that are in an initial phase. In other words, 7 out of 100 people between the ages of 18 and 64 are starting a business in Catalonia.

According to the IV Young Business Talents Report, young people with the greatest entrepreneurial spirit are in Catalonia (46.16%), the Canary Islands (44.02%) and Aragon (43.48%), while the least entrepreneurial are the students from Castilla-La Mancha (27.88%), Navarra (31.03%) and Galicia (33.53%).

Among the reasons why the Autonomous Community of Catalonia is recognized for its entrepreneurial spirit, the great growth of centers aimed at companies and startups being able to work and have access to contacts, investors, mentors and suppliers stands out. The Mobile World Capital Foundation study points out that there are a total of 96 hubsalmost double in the last five years.

Among the reasons why professionals seek entrepreneurship, is maintenance. The GEM points out that more than 70% consider the shortage of employment as one of the reasons to undertake. While those who do not, usually stop doing it for fear of failing (42%).

Tips to become an entrepreneur

The CEO of WorldEd School indicates three tips to become an entrepreneur:

  • Overall, 93% of early-stage entrepreneurs had secondary or higher education, and 59% undergraduate or postgraduate studies.
  • Planning: Get organized and keep your purpose and growth plan in mind by listing objectives and goals to achieve. In this way, you will be able to observe which points are necessary to work better in the institution.
  • Creation of a network of contacts: Networking is very important for the exchange of ideas and also to find those people who are interested and possibly invest in you. 38% of Spaniards know other entrepreneurs, while the average in Europe is 28% and in the world, 49%.
