AMD has bought Starfield

In case you don’t know, Starfield is a space exploration and adventure game. We will have a huge universe of worlds to explore, where about 1000 will be inhabited by different species.

The game developed by Bethesda is not without controversy. The biggest one is that Microsoft apparently bought the developer of the game to make it exclusive to Xbox. Initially, according to rumors, Starfield was going to be exclusive to the PS5, something that Microsoft did not like.

The latest “controversy” regarding Starfield

AMD it seems to be very interested in this bethesda game that could be a great sales boost for them. They have created processor and graphics card bundles with which they will give away a copy of the game. But, in addition, as we have commented, only will support FSR initially.

It is surprising that AMD has released a series of requirements to play Starfield, independent of the officers. These requirements only contemplate processors AMD Ryzen 7000 and cards graphics of architectures RDNA 2 and RDNA 3. Specifically, they tell us the following:

  • 1080p resolution: Ryzen 5 7600 processor, RX 7600 graphics card and A620 chipset motherboard recommended
  • 1440p resolution: we are told that the best combination is a Ryzen 7 7700 processor, an RX 6800 graphics card and the B650 chipset
  • 4K resolution: Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor, RX 7900 XT graphics card and X670 chipset are recommended here

As it is a proposal of the AMD marketing division, you will not see solutions from the competition. But, this recommendation is far from the official requirements of the Steam page. These are:

  • Minimum requirements
    • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Intel Core i7-6800K
    • Memory: 16 GB RAM
    • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 5700, NVIDIA GeForce 1070 Ti
  • recommended requirements
    • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, Intel i5-10600K
    • Memory: 16 GB RAM
    • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080

What it seems is that AMD’s recommendation is based on the bundles they have created for the game. They’re not really crazy component combinations, they’re pretty well balanced. However, you can save money if you look for alternatives between the official requirements and the AMD recommendation.

There is no quiet week since the game was announced

It is true that the game does not need advertising, it is already giving enough to speak for itself. Despite the fact that since its announcement we don’t know we have seen much more of the game or its mechanics, it is constantly on everyone’s lips.

Its requirements generated controversy because they recommended having an SSD. One wonders, what’s so weird? The rare thing is to find some Gaming PC that does not have an SSD drive installed.

Shortly after that I would use AMD FSR, the free and open source alternative to NVIDIA DLSS. Then, if it was going to be exclusive to PS5 and that is why Microsoft bought Bethesda, so that it would not appear on the Sony console.

Now, will it be the last “controversy” before the launch of the game?

Note to the reader: understand that all these controversies seem somewhat ridiculous to us, especially this last one. The truth is, we don’t care, we have a crazy desire to try it.
