Apple will change the position of the iPhone 15 Pro Max cameras and you won’t notice

iPhone 13 Pro and Max

The new camera technology that will include the iPhone 15 Pro Max has forced Apple to change the distribution that cameras currently have on the trio of sensors that sit on the back of the phone. The reasons are completely understandable, since otherwise it would be physically impossible to incorporate the planned new camera, and possibly this change is so inconsequential that most users you will never know the difference.

A change of position to get more zoom

The change in question affects Ultra Wide and Telephoto cameras. As rumored until now, the new iPhone 15 Pro Max shall include a camera with periscopic lens that will allow shooting with a optical zoom up to 6x. As you probably know, these periscope lenses mount an elongated set of lenses that places the sensor perpendicular to the phone, requiring more space than a traditional camera module might.

Well, if Apple continued to keep the telephoto camera in the upper left position of the trio of cameras, it would not have enough space to fit the periscope module. Hence the telephoto lens lowers to the center position (between the LiDAR sensor and the Flash), having enough free space on the right side of the back of the phone to place the prism and the lenses that are responsible for the optical zoom.

the camera of the future

iPhone 12 Pro vs. iPhone 12 Pro Max

Yes, periscopic cameras have been on the market for quite some time. Many Android terminals have this very interesting solution that allows you to enjoy lossless optical zoom in a small device. But you know how Apple is. Their decisions require a lot of time to mature, and usually include their personal touch with which to revolutionize technology in their style. We’ll see what they do with this camera.

Unfortunately the periscope camera will be an exclusive feature of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. As every year, the largest model will incorporate an exclusive function that will differentiate it from the rest of the model, however, this difference could disappear the following year.

And it is that both the person who reports the change in the position of the cameras and the well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, assure that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models will both incorporate the telescopic camera.

This means that to opt for the camera with optical zoom in the most compact model of the iPhone Pro we will have to wait almost two years, so forget about getting it in 2023 if what you are looking for is a phone with moderate measurements.
