as they came, they left

Innovating is not easy, especially in the segment of technology and information technology. Creating something new does not have to be a guarantee of success, in fact, it is normal that it ends up crashing. We are going to review some of those bets that were going to revolutionize the world such as NVIDIA 3D Vision, FireWire or large format monitors, among others.

It is not necessary to go very far to talk about technologies that seemed so. Some, if we are realistic, when they were presented it was already clear that they were not. Well, most of these were pointing to failure, so go with hot cloths.

They seemed like good ideas, but in the end, no.

Some of the technologies on the list still exist, but their presence is so low that they can be ruled out. Others went quite unnoticed and others made a lot of noise, but they dissolved like sugar.

NVIDIA 3D Vision

This technology was launched in 2009 and ended up being a huge failure. This technology allowed you to enjoy games in 3D, giving a new gaming experience. Really, it was a dead technology from the beginning, since it was very expensive. It required special glasses that cost about 150 euros and a special monitor that cost about 500 euros. Come on, just in these two elements you were preparing almost 700 euros, apart from the graphics card, which was not worth any.

It had a little initial effervescence, but few were interested in it. ASUS and few others released monitors compatible with this new technology. The game catalog was extremely small, something that also contributed to his death. I must say that I tried this technology, it was very cool, but not enough to pay 700 euros.

FireWire port

It was presented as the evolution of the USB port, which would end with this connector. It offered higher transfer speeds, but a year (more or less) after it was launched, the USB 3.0 standard was presented, which exceeded it. Nor did I have much support in the industry, launching some products, but in a rather lukewarm way. It ended up being relegated to professional photography, until its disappearance.

Google Glass augmented reality glasses

The ideas that the company launches are sometimes somewhat bizarre. Google is an expert company in creating projects that are often absurd and doomed to failure, like Google+. One of his great creations that was going to revolutionize everything and came to absolutely nothing. They integrated a camera, a screen in the glasses and other extras in the purest Minority Report style.

ASUS GX700 Laptop

This laptop is one of the biggest aberrations I’ve ever seen and, luckily, it didn’t proliferate. What was wrong with this laptop? Well, it had a removable external liquid cooling system. It generated quite a bit of heat, so an external element was created, a huge bulge. Without a doubt, the funniest thing is that ASUS sold it to you in a gift transport case. All a madness that, luckily, did not go to majors.

Large format monitors or BFGD

They’re still on the market and still available, but they’re surreally clear. These BFGD monitors are powered or supported by NVIDIA. They are characterized by being 50 inches or more, come on, television size, but with a gaming monitor panel. They usually have advanced image quality technologies, in addition to having to include NVIDIA G-Sync Ultimate. The big problem is mainly in the price, which usually cost several thousand euros, unaffordable for the average user.

Virtual reality

It is still too early to enter the list, but it has not finished taking off. Virtual reality glasses are quite expensive and, in addition, upper-middle-range hardware is required. The catalog of games is not the most attractive in the world either since, in most cases, they are “playable movies”. It will not disappear in the short and medium term, but it hasn’t quite taken off either.
