Assassin’s Creed could go back to basics in a new opus in 2023

Ubisoft’s flagship Assassin’s Creed saga could return in 2023. In any case, this is what renowned journalist Jason Schreier reveals at Bloomberg. If Assassin’s Creed initially made a name for itself as an assassination game where stealth and infiltration are the key words, the saga has changed its formula from episode to episode to ultimately approach an open-world Action-Adventure RPG. This new approach really took shape with Assassin’s Creed Origins in 2017, before being democratized on AC Odyssey and the latest opus to date AC Valhalla.

And if AC Valhalla was a commercial success, many players regretted the abandonment of this essential part of the gameplay. Some have also pointed out the excessive generosity of the game. Indeed, it will take you no less than a hundred hours to complete the title 100%, between side and main quests, village improvement, looting , or picking up different collectibles. And again, you can add dozens of additional hours by counting the recent extensions (and the one to come in March 2022).

A return to stealth for Assassin’s Creed in 2023?

However, and according to renowned journalist Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, a new opus is already in the boxes. According to his information, this episode could land on our consoles and PC from here the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023 at the latest. It was originally a new expansion for AC Valhalla centered on the character of basimmember of the order of Assassins present in the cast of Valhalla.

Finally, Ubisoft would have decided to make an opus in its own right. A practice that is not new, since Naughty Dog has done the same with Uncharted The Lost Legacyoriginally thought of as a stand-alone of Uncharted 4. According to its sources, the French publisher would like to return to the sources of the saga with this opus, with a gameplay much more focused on stealth and infiltrationall taking place in a much more restricted universe.

Indeed, the player would have to evolve in the city of Baghdad in the 9th century, and could therefore offer an experience much closer to the first opus. Of course, this information should be taken with a grain of salt, while keeping in mind that Jason Schreier’s reputation is well established. As a reminder, an Assassin’s Creed series is still in preparation on Netflix.
