Bouygues Telecom launches an expensive option to connect its TV decoder to Wi-Fi

Bouygues Telecom has recently offered a new option for connecting its TV decoder to Wi-Fi. This feature is extremely practical when your box is too far from your TV decoder. Only, at €5 per month, the bill quickly becomes salty.

Like many French operators, Bouygues Telecom is a master in the art of regularly increasing the price of its offers, whether mobile or internet/fiber plans. Recently, the operator took advantage of the integration of Wi-Fi 6E in its latest boxes to increase the price of Fiber offers. In mid-April, the rates for B&You packages rose by €3 per month, in exchange for a more generous date envelope.

However, recently, Bouygues Telecom launched a new option called “Wi-Fi TV decoder connection”. The principle is simple. This feature gives you access to a Wi-Fi repeater which will transmit the signal from your box to your TV decoder via Wi-Fi.

Convenient in certain situations, especially when your box is far from your TV decoder and that it is impossible to physically connect the two devices via an ethernet cable. Nothing is uglier than seeing an RG45 cable running all over the house.

5€ per month for a Wi-Fi repeater

As the operator explains, this option fills a gap. In effect, the TV decoders supplied by Bouygues do not allow direct access to TV via Wi-Fi. An Ethernet connection is mandatory… unless you subscribe to this option. Only one TV decoder offers this service and it is only available via the latest Bbox Ultym Wi-Fi 6E compatible offer.

And there are other annoying details with this offer. First its price: access to the Wi-Fi repeater for your TV decoder is charged €5 per month (after the first 3 months free), in addition to the monthly amount of your Fiber subscription Bbox Must, Special Series Must Miami or Bbox Pro (the only offers that can claim this option). It should be noted that the user actually rents the repeater, unlike what other operators offer, which allows the device to be purchased definitively.

This is the case with Free, which offers Freebox Delta and Pop subscribers the opportunity to obtain a Wi-Fi repeater when subscribing to the contract on request, or in exchange for ten euros a posteriori. Only €10 for Free therefore, against €5 per month at Bouygues. As you can see, the bill can quickly become salty. Especially since if you decide to stop this option, you will therefore have to return the repeater to Bouygues. Note however that the operator is not the only one to offer this kind of formula, since SFR also has a Wi-Fi repeater option at €3 per month and per repeater requested.
