Control creator and Alan Wake prepare a free shooter

Remedy Entertainment, the studio behind the Control and Alan Wake franchises, is developing a new free-to-play game in collaboration with Tencent.

After announcing new productions, particularly awaited by the players, Remedy Entertainment puts the cover back by presenting a brand new project, developed in collaboration with Tencent. At the moment, the game is at an early stage of development and only has a codename: Vanguard. However, the studio has agreed to share certain details regarding the content of the game.

This is a free-to-play shooter with a PvE mode. In a press release, the studio specifies that “ combines Remedy’s narrative expertise and action play in an immersive multiplayer experience “. You will understand, it will be a service game, like Fortnite for example, in which the players will not fight against each other but against their environment. Hordes of zombies? Members of an armed group? No one knows yet. Remedy explains, however:

Vanguard marks Remedy’s first entry into the games-as-a-service business model, executed by our top-tier team of free-to-play experts. We’re building something new and exciting for the cooperative multiplayer space, on top of Remedy’s strengths.

An AAA that will be released worldwide

In terms of the budget, the studio allocates to the project the same amount that we could attribute to any other AAA, we can therefore expect the same visual quality as a Control for example, the last title dated studio. As for Tencent, its participation will be on the one hand financial, and on the other hand linked to the conquest of Asian players since the company will be able ” localize the game for selected Asian markets and cover the corresponding localization costs “.

As you can imagine, no launch window or even an official name has been shared at this stage of development, and we are not immune that the project will not be done in the end, depending on the complications it will encounter. .

Remedy has its work cut out for it

However, this makes one more project on the hands of the studio, which already has its pockets full of ideas to materialize. We can in particular mention the development of a spin-off of Control, which will be playable in cooperation. Appointed Condor, it is developed in collaboration with 505 Games and will also be a PvE mode.

We can also cite the development of the Alan Wake remaster and its sequel, both of which were announced in 2021. No release date in sight for all these titles, but we are already expecting them firmly.
