Denuvo DRM does not affect performance and they want to prove it

Games at launch often include protections to prevent piracy. The most widely used system is Denuvo, a specific DRM to protect games that has sometimes lasted for hours. one of the great user complaints is that it consumes a lot of resources, something that denuvo intends to deny with his own benchmark.

If you are a fan of video games, you will know Denuvo very well, since it is the most used DRM today. The only mission it has is to prevent the game from being cracked, come on, so that you can play it without paying. It’s not a very good solution, as it has been breached countless times, sometimes within minutes or hours.

This utility is not liked by users, who complain that it affects performance. It is true and has been proven countless times. It has been seen that a game with this plugin has worse performance than after being cracked.

Denuvo gets tired of misinformation about his DRM

Many players report that the Denuvo DRM puts load on the processor. This causes a great Loss of performance. But something curious is that it does not always happen, although it does in most cases.

Irdeto, a company that bought Denuvo in 2018, wants to shed light on this matter. During an interview, Steve Huin, director of video game operations at Irdeto, answered the question: Does Denuvo affect game performance?

It is almost impossible for players to get the same version of the game before and after encryption. In the entire life cycle of the game, there will be a Denovo version and a non-Denovo version, but they are not comparable, because these two versions can be composed of six. Many patches have been added to it by the game studio, which may make the game better or worse.

In regards to the anti-tampering feature, I think I thought there had to be a clear statement that what we were doing was not having an appreciable impact on the gameplay experience.

Comment Huin

We have to say that it is first time that Denuvo or someone directly in its development is so clear. Huin also points out that it is still too late to start explaining this. It is clearly a message to the former developers and managers of this DRM, who were always opaque.

new software

Verify it through a benchmark

It seems that Irdeto is working on a benchmark software that shows the performance of the game with and without Denuvo. It would become a tool that seeks to gain the trust of video game fans.

Although of course, we all know that benchmark tools can be manipulated by developers. To gain credibility, it would have to be open source and available on GitHub, so that the code could be audited.

He is right in saying that the explanations come too late. Denuvo has always been a software that has lived in opacity, being the first time that someone talks about it.

One can choose to believe Huin or not. Maybe you are right and the problem is not Denuvo, but the botched patches and updates. We have seen in recent years how games come out half finished and of course, they work terribly.
