After long months of closed beta, DuckDuckGo finally launches its service DuckDuckGo Email Protection to all users. This remains in beta, but anyone can access it immediately, whereas previously there was a discouraging queuing system to be able to try this feature, which promises to strengthen the privacy of our data on the web.

You can now obtain your email address by @duck.com and start enjoying the benefits associated with it. Free, this service offers to purge your emails of the hidden trackers they contain. Indeed, when you receive an email, it may contain cookies, which will notify the sender of the date and time at which the email was opened, from which geographical position it was read, or even from what type of device. During the closed beta phase, DuckDuckGo measured that approximately 85% of emails received contain cookies. Hiding your real email address also avoids cross-checking information with databases and preventing it from being associated with your Facebook or Google accounts, complicating the establishment of your advertising profile.

DuckDuckGo Email Protection enters open beta

The advantage of DuckDuckGo Email Protection is that it allows you to continue to use your usual email addresses and email clients as normal. Once set, this option will retrieve the emails of which you are the recipient, process them and remove the trackers, then forward them to your main email address for a seamless experience.

To use the service, update your DuckDuckGo mobile application on Android or iOS then go to Settings. Select the email protection option to enable and configure it. On desktop, install the DuckDuckGo extension on your browser (Firefox, Chrome, Edge and Brave are supported) then go to https://duckduckgo.com/email/. On Mac, you can do this by installing the dedicated DuckDuckGo app, which is in beta.
