Elon Musk pays the blue check of Stephen King, LeBron James and William Shatner on Twitter

Elon MuskApart from being an owner, he wants to be the absolute protagonist of Twitter, even if it costs him to get into all the puddles he finds on his way. The tycoon’s latest move has been aimed at three celebrities retaining the blue verification, since they have decided not to pay for the Twitter Blue subscription.

The three celebrities who have withheld the blue check without paying are William ShatnerCanadian actor who was the first to commission Captain Kirk for Star Trek; Stephen King, the well-known and prolific writer of horror novels; and Lebron James, the veteran NBA superstar currently playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. However, the reality is that the social network has not broken its own rules (or at least not from a purely aseptic interpretation), but has been Elon Musk himself who has decided to pay Twitter Blue for them.

Stephen King explained that his own account has warned him that he is subscribed to Twitter Blue and that the social network has his phone number, but that he did not carry out any process in this regard. That was answered by Elon Musk, who said a “you’re welcome, regards”, which has implied that the tycoon has paid the subscription and has used Stephen King’s phone number without his permission.

The end of the old Twitter verification system is more than anticipated by the company behind the social network, but that has not invited all celebrities to checkout and subscribe to Twitter Blue. Elon Musk has come out to explain that he has only paid for the subscriptions of William Shatner, LeBron James and Stephen King, but his reasons have not transcended. The fact that some famous people don’t have blue verification could make Twitter less attractive as a platform, so it’s not implausible that Musk’s reasons are at least partially selfish.

On the other hand, Stephen King was not shy about saying a long time ago that Elon Musk “has fit terribly into Twitter” after the tycoon became the owner of the company behind the social network, despite considering him a visionary in his management around the electric vehicle brand Tesla. Is his blue check payment an attempt to smooth things over? The truth is that Musk, at least on the surface, doesn’t seem humble enough to do something like this out of simple altruism.

The success of Twitter Blue is unknown because it is not known how many users have subscribed to the program, which gives access to powerful features such as the ability to write messages of up to 10,000 characters. However, possibly going through the box does not compensate those who are mainly dedicated to consuming content published on the social network.
