Free will offer 4G back up to avoid loss of connection with its Freebox

Free has announced the launch of a 4G backup to plug into your Freebox in the event of loss of connection, in order to maintain access to the network at home. For now, the device will first be deployed to users having problems with their Internet box, but, ultimately, it will be sold directly in stores.

Losing your Internet connection following a problem with your box is annoying. In addition, the problem may be very debilitating if you are working from home – or if you were about to finish your favorite series. In short, you don’t necessarily have time to wait for a technician to come and repair your box. In fact, Free will soon offer a temporary solution for this type of situation.

During the Communities Day, during which the operator also confirmed the upcoming arrival of its next Freebox v9, the latter presented a 4G backup, a small device that will allow you to maintain the connection when your box encounters a problem. Concretely, all you have to do is connect it to your Freebox so that it switches to the 4G network if the WiFi connection is lost. According to Univers Freebox, the speed offered would then be 25 Mb/s.

Never lose connection again with Free’s 4G back up

Installation is therefore particularly simple, since you just need to ensure that your Freebox is turned on, before connecting the back up to the Ethernet port then plugging it into the mains. Free also recommends placing everything near a window to benefit from an optimal connection. However, you will have to wait a little to take advantage of it at any time. Initially, this will be distributed only to subscribers experiencing a problem with their Freebox.

It will also be installed free of charge by the Free Proxi teams, which means that you will have to be located in an area covered by the program. But this will be temporary, and Free plans a global rollout by the end of the year. Subscribers receiving 4G backup will be able to keep it for the modest sum of €4.99/month. Marketing in stores and on the operator’s website is also planned, although we do not currently have a date.
