Google Domains is going awaysince the company has decided to close the business line of domains and sell your assets to Squarespace, a platform focused on making it easier for companies and professionals to develop their brands and online businesses. Google Domains will cease to exist once a transition period has ended.
The asset sale includes approximately 10 million domains currently hosted by Google Domains, and Squarespace is committed to maintaining all renewal pricing for those domains to Google Domains customers for a minimum of 12 months.
The company will offer them incentives to develop a website, and will offer other additional services. Squarespace, a longtime reseller of Google Workspace, will take advantage of Google’s infrastructure that supports Domains during the migration period to ensure that domain transfers go smoothly.
When the transaction closes, Squarespace will become the exclusive provider of domains each time a customer purchases a domain along with a Workspace subscription directly from Google for a minimum period of three years. It will also offer billing and support services to Google Workspace customers who open an account with the service through Google Domains. Customers will continue to have the option to make changes to their domain account at any time.
If all goes according to plan, the purchase transaction will close during the third quarter of 2023, although most of the highlights of the agreement will come to light as of 2024.

For his part, Matt Madrigal, Vice President and Head of Retail Purchasing at Googlehas stated that they have reached a definitive agreement with Squarespace «for the purchase of Google Domains registration business customer accounts, to continue our efforts to focus our focus. Supporting a smooth transition for our customers over the next few months, with the help of the Google Domains team, is our top priority. Squarespace can offer an integrated domain buying and management experience, as well as offering other tools these customers may need to develop their online presence.«.
