GPD Win Max 2 is the new version of the compact laptop from a company that has specialized in making “unique” machines. The model in question was supposed to be the most powerful “handheld” computer in the industry. And we speak in the past because the increase in screen size makes it less manageable for what is its main task, games, but in compensation it has even more performance.
The new Win Max mounts a screen of 10.1 inches. Multi-touch and capacitive, its native resolution rises to 2560 x 1600 pixels and is compatible with stylus pens with 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity.
If previous versions were offered with Intel hardware, now the commitment to AMD is complete and the Ryzen 7000 Mobile processors are incorporated, with the possibility of equipping versions up to Ryzen 7 7840U 8 cores and 16 threads and an RDNA 3 Radeon 780M graphics card. Not bad for a ‘mini’ laptop.
It is accompanied by LPDDR5X memory in capacities of 32 or 64 GBytes and for storage it has double M.2 up to 2 TB (expandable up to a total of 16 TB) and also supports SD cards.
Its connectivity also borders on high, with the release of the latest version of the USB4 port, other USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type A and Type C, an HDMI 2.1 and an audio system with 4 speakers. It supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2, and can even be equipped with 4G broadband as an option.
Of course, innovation at this point and its differentiating character comes from its approach as portable gaming machine. In this way the latest version maintains the dual ALPS 3D sticks, L3 and R3 click buttons, separate directional buttons, L1 / L2 and R1 / R2 buttons and Panasonic signature switches.
A compact machine for games (or for anything) made of premium materials such as magnesium and aluminum, leaving its weight at just 1 kilograms. GPD Win Max 2 will be released in june with the top-of-the-range configuration (Ryzen 7 7840) and later release of the rest of the versions. We do not know price, although it will not be cheap. The series has been increasing in features, size and cost, and the current version sells for between $1,100 and $1,300.
