This type of vehicle allows for traveling to almost any area of the country without the need for booking a hotel room. One of the downfalls of traveling in an RV is that you might not have internet in every location. If you travel close to large cities or even neighborhoods where a lot of people live so that you have a better connection, then you might find that it’s difficult to establish a connection or keep one that you do find for any length of time. Fortunately, there are a few ways that you can connect so that you can communicate with other people, play games, and perform other tasks that you enjoy doing online.
Wireless Cell Service
The most common option for getting on the internet in an RV is cellular service. If you have a mobile device, then you probably already have service that can be used when you’re not at home. It’s usually a fast option and one that’s easy to establish. You probably have a hotspot as well so that others who are traveling with you can access the internet. When choosing a mobile carrier, you want to make sure the provider offers this option and that the coverage is widespread if you plan on going to other states. Verizon and AT&T are among the most popular and offer the most coverage.
Keep in mind that there are some disadvantages to cellular service for the internet. You’ll need to pay a monthly or yearly amount in order to maintain your service, and some cell phone service providers have limits as to how much data you can use each month.
Satellite
Just as you would have satellite internet for your home, you can get satellite for your RV so that you can access the internet while you’re on the road or while you’re at a campground. This is an option to consider if you plan to travel away from large cities as the signal comes from satellites in orbit. You’ll need to position the satellite to the southern area of the sky. TV signals are sometimes included with satellite internet. Some of the top providers include Dish, DirecTV, and HughesNet.
While this is a convenient option, it’s one that can be a bit expensive. You’re going to have to purchase the equipment that’s needed to connect to the internet. You’ll then need to get a monthly plan. Many providers limit your data each month. However, you can purchase more if you find that you’ve reached your limit until it’s restored. There are usually decreased speeds during peak times, which are typically in the afternoon and early evening.
Cable
If you stay at a campground, then you’ll usually find that you have access to the internet with a fee being included in your rate. DSL is an option as well, especially if you know that you’re going to be at the campground for an extended period of time. Keep in mind that there will likely be several other people using the internet connection, which could result in slower speeds. Some campgrounds offer free internet access, especially those that are larger and have the means to maintain the equipment needed to extend internet service farther away from the office.
