We all have a specific opinion about many things in our day to day, also about technology. This also happens to us computer scientists, who often move by certain beliefs or ideas and from there we do not move. Something like that happened to me, I had always thought that a gaming laptop It didn’t make sense, but my opinion has changed.
The truth is that we have seen how laptops have evolved a lot until they are compact solutions. Many will not remember it, but a few years ago ASUS released a laptop that had an additional external cooling system and was supplied with a carrying case. That, luckily, is far behind thanks to new cooling technologies and reduced consumption.
No opinion is set in stone, it’s just a matter of time
I have always had desktop computers to play and also to work and/or study. About 6 years ago I bought my first laptop to go to class and study, but it was quite simple. I bought a Lenovo with integrated graphics, which still works perfectly today and is practically like new. What’s more, I “retired” it in November of last year when I bought the new laptop.
At that time, buying a tower was not a viable option due to very specific conditions. But, I wanted something with more or less powerful dedicated graphics to be able to play a game. Of course, the work of looking for a laptop that would fit in my budget, which at that time was about 1300 euros.
We all know that, at that time, if you needed to buy a computer, whether it was a desktop or a laptop, you had to shell out good money. The truth is that I wanted a laptop with an RTX 3070but it was impossible, the cheapest cost about 1800 eurosso I bought one with an RTX 3060 that cost me 1200 euros.
I must say that I am delighted with my asus tuf laptopIt is wonderful that it works perfectly. It is a really very powerful laptop that allows me to move any game and, in addition, I have Ray Tracing and DLSS. It is also a very compact solution that takes up little space and that I can take anywhere very comfortably.
One of the aspects that I have always hated in laptops is the keyboard, which has always seemed uncomfortable to me. Luckily this keyboard has high-quality mechanical switches, which is extremely comfortable.
I was a little scared because of a Dell Alienware
A few years ago I had the opportunity to try a dell alienware gaming laptop. The truth is that my experience with that laptop was not the best by far. If I remember correctly, I had an RTX 3080 and a Core i9, it was a very powerful, slim and absurdly loud gaming laptop.
Literally when you ran some benchmark or played a game it seemed like a Boeing 737 will take off in your room. The noise level was pretty beastly, more than I’ve ever heard from a gaming laptop before. Sure, that made me more hesitant than I already had to buy a gaming laptop.
I am not going to say that my ASUS TUF will be the paradigm of silence, far from it, but it is a tolerable level. The thing about that Alienware seemed to me, at first, something absurd and meaningless. But as I say, it was a minimalist construction that sought to lighten weight. That aesthetic design, at the cooling level, was a real chestnut.
