After many rumors and alleged leaks, Nintendo launched the Switch OLED some time ago. The new model with a 7-inch screen offered spectacular image quality, however, the console was nothing more than a version with slight changes compared to the current model at the time. This made the wishes of a Switch Pro continue to be present among the fans, but now it seems that everything is coming to an end.
Has Nintendo canceled the Pro version of Switch?
If you thought that sooner or later the brand could surprise us with the long-awaited launch of the Pro version of Switch, we regret to tell you that it seems that it will not happen anytime soon. Since Digital Foundry They assure that the brand could have canceled the plans for the development of this model, since if previously there were developers who provided certain clues in this regard, now everything seems to be absolutely stopped.
In the words of John Linneman, it seems that there was previously a rumor or a slight idea in the environment that something that seemed to be an update of Switch to a somewhat more advanced model was being cooked. But all that is gone. The question is why?
A cancellation in time
You just have to take a look at the market to see that today there are devices similar to Switch that have incredible potential with which to play extremely demanding games. That is the proposal that Valve implemented with its Steam Deckand that many Chinese manufacturers have replicated with extremely interesting platforms, such as the GPD Win 4 wave AYANEO 2.
Taking into account the current showcase, launching a Nintendo Switch with several changes at the level of performance but that do not involve a generation jump, would be a mistake. Leaving aside the games with the Nintendo stamp, the console would not be able to achieve that point of differentiation that helped it stand out and gain a foothold between Xbox One and PS4.
Canceled forever?
As you can understand, the fact that Nintendo has stopped thinking about a Switch Pro does not mean that it has stopped thinking about a new console. The plan will simply have changed, and it is that there is a shadow of failure, since the giant has not managed to launch two successful generations consecutively in recent years.
That being said, we will have to keep waiting for any type of related news, but we are very afraid that it will not be until 2024 when we can have something clear. The problem will be in which direction to go, since at this point we do not imagine launching a console with the power of a PS5 or an Xbox Series X (Nintendo no longer does that), but it cannot be supported by the idea of a portable console and at the same time desktop, because that already exists. Nobody said that replacing the Switch was going to be easy.
