In Meta they also return to the office three days a week

The trickle of techies that embrace a hybrid model but mean most days of the week will be spent in the office continues to rise. The last to adopt it has been Goal, which does not stop adopting measures that are not going exactly well to raise the morale of its staff. Thus, in the company, which since last November has laid off more than 20,000 employees worldwide, have started notifying to those who remain that from September they will have to go to the office three days a week.

Of course, according to The Information, this new hybrid work policy that the group will adopt will not affect workers who have agreed by contract that their job will be mainly remote. A relief, therefore, for those who live several hundred or thousands of kilometers from their offices and were hired to work remotely for the company.

In parallel, the Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberghas highlighted that in the company they are «committed to distributed work«, and they trust that «people can make a significant impact both from the office and from home“, in addition to remembering that they continue”committed to redefining the model to drive collaboration, relationships and the culture necessary for employees to do their best work«.

After the acute phase of the pandemic passed, Meta extended its remote work policy to all of its full-time employees in June 2021. Zuckerberg then commented that the company had learned during the year and at the peak of the pandemic that “good work can be done anywhere“, in addition to pointing out then that it was”optimistic that remote work at scale is possible, especially with continued improvement in remote video presence and virtual reality«.

But it does not seem that he continues to think the same, something that has also happened in technology companies such as Alphabet, Amazon or Salesforce. Many have reversed their plans to telecommute and have ordered their staff to return to their posts in the office, normally three days a week. The extreme case is in Tesla and in the rest of Elon Musk’s companies, who must work in the office «at least 40 hours per week«. Come on, they don’t have any kind of telework.

Already last March, Zuckerberg hinted that he was going to update Meta’s policy regarding the work model, since he said that the company had done an internal analysis that showed that engineers who work in person performed better.

He then stated that said analysis suggested that «Engineers who either joined Meta in person and then moved remotely, or continued in person performed better on average than people who joined remotely. This analysis also shows that early-career engineers perform better on average when they work face-to-face with their peers at least three days each week.«.
