While fans of the 1996 film’s Roland Emmerich, Independence Day, celebrate the 25th anniversary of the film, probably trying to forget the existence of its sequel, the director has returned to talk about Independence Day 3, the film he would like to bring to Disney + one day.
Is Independence Day 3 coming to Disney +?
On the occasion of a recent interview with ComicBook, Emmerich is in fact back to talk about the third film in the saga, which we know may never arrive in cinemas (or on the Disney platform) due to the poor success Independence Day: Regeneration.
However, the director seems to be now convinced (or at least hopeful) that Disney can one day give Independence Day 3 a chance, perhaps made as if it were a TV series:
“Now they have a streaming service and they need a product. Maybe I’d like to make a third one, or a TV show, continuing the story “Emmerich explained. “When we did Independence Day: Regeneration, we already had the third part ready too. And indeed, the third part has a lot more to do with the first, because we have learned, more or less, that there are many refugees out there living on a refugee planet. And that’s where the aliens finally arrive because, a bit like the aliens on earth, they discovered it and telepathically, or in any other way, they let their super queen know. So we would have this movie with Brent Spiner and Jeff Goldblum and see them grappling with all these different forms of people, which would be a great movie. But we’ll see what happens ”.
Emmerich also explained that he may not be directing the film or series, explaining that he has a number of other projects to keep busy with right now.
“It doesn’t even matter to me who’s going to direct it because it’s something I’m very passionate about regardless. (…) I mean, also… I’ve got enough to do, so I don’t have to (focus on the franchise). “
