Instagram will also have its own chatbot

The fever for artificial intelligence and chatbots is in full swing, and Instagram is, for the moment, the last online service to join it. I’ve been thinking for some time, and I’m sure I’m not the only one, that hand in hand with this extreme popularization of this technology, in the coming months we will see more than one case of incorporating chatbots into services in which, to be frank, they contribute little or no. nothing, but they allow their companies to show off their chests by being up to date.

Thus, for example, think about the integration of a chatbot in a social network, which by definition is a type of service specially designed to interact with other people, it may seem a bit strange. However, it is also true that a chatbot can be a very interesting complement to a conversation between two or more people. And it is true that it has become very popular, especially among the youngest, to use the private message functions of this type of service to communicate on a regular basis, to the point that in certain demographic groups these functions are stealing more and more share of market to services specifically designed for this purpose, such as instant messaging.

So it may actually make more sense than initially seemed to integrate a chatbot into Instagram’s private messaging feature. In addition, we must not forget that we are talking about a service that belongs to Meta, and that this technological seems to have put the focus (or, at least, one of them) on artificial intelligencea field in which it has great experts, such as Yann LeCun, and which in recent months have already made some very interesting announcements and launches, such as LlaMa (Large Language Model Meta AI) and SAM, to give just a couple of examples. .

According to the leaker Alessandro Paluzziwho would have had access to internal company information, Instagram is already testing a chatbot for its messages function. Based on this information, the chatbot is designed to both answer user questions and make suggestions and recommendations in the context of the conversation. To use it in a group conversation, it will be possible to invoke it using its identifier preceded by an @.

What strikes me the most, yes, is that according to the image that we can see in the tweet, the Instagram chatbot will feature no less than 30 personalitieswhich makes me wonder if they will be distinguished solely by their character or if, on the contrary, at least part of them will emulate well-known personalities, something that can attract many people to use them.
