Interesting startups for investors: Cooltra, a world benchmark in rental models

Cooltra is a company that offers motorcycle rental service for companies and individuals. The startup has become a worldwide benchmark for new rental models, which have spread especially throughout Europe, such as renting and sharing.

To date, the numbers are spectacular. They assure that they have circled the Earth 2,643.78, have covered 106.1 million kilometers and They have saved 10,000 tons of CO2.

The company was born in Barcelona in 2006 with the aim of transforming cities into more sustainable, safe and efficient places. Timo Buetefisch, founder and CEO of the companyhe detected when he left his motorcycle in the workshop that there was no daily rental service for this vehicle, as was the case with cars.

Today Cooltra has two business lines, one fleet of 20,000 motorcycles –of which 75% are already electric– more than 600 also electric bicycles and 400 professionals spread over seven countries who work daily to offer the best service, whatever the customer’s needs.

Cooltra is present in a total of nine cities. Four are Spanish: Madrid, Barcelona, ​​Valencia and Seville. In addition, it has offices in Italy (Rome, Milan and Turin), Portugal (Lisbon) and France (Paris). However, its expansion process will allow it to reach several European cities.

Financing round of 25 million euros

In November 2022, the company managed to close a financing round worth 25 million euros, promoted by its current shareholders, including Francisco José Ribera, president of Gestamp; Ramón Antonio Payano, representative of CBI and Anma Venture as well as groups of Spanish and German investors, whose name is unknown. The objective of the round was to promote international expansion, beginning to operate in Germany, where it has already started its activity in Cologne, Hamburg, Frankfurt and soon in Hanover.

Already in 2018, Cooltra joined Capital Sum, through its sustainability fund, to start a collaboration with the aim of financing the mobility assets necessary to accelerate growth eCooltra, a true benchmark in the motorcycle-sharing sector in Spain. It must be taken into account that the sum of the investments since 2006 amounts to 100 million euros.
