Micron launches 30TB high-endurance SSD drives for data centers

The well-known manufacturer of DRAM and storage solutions has launched new SSD drives aimed at the professional sector whose main values are its high storage capacity and high resistance. Both keys are very important for any company, that is clear, and for this reason they are an interesting option to be used in data centers.

This series of SSD units are identified as Micron 6500 ION, they are manufactured with 232-layer TLC (three bits per cell) memory chips from Micron itself, which means that we are facing the first NVMe SSDs that exceed 200 layers.

According to the company, these storage units offer a value typical of QLC solutions in terms of storage density and cost, but maintain the advantages of TLC memory, which, we remember, is faster and has a longer lifespan. The useful life is essential without talking about data centers, so in this sense Micron has spun fine.

Micron launches 30TB SSDs

In terms of performance, these storage drives reach a maximum speed of 6.8 GB/s sequential read and 5 GB/s sequential write, and can reach 1 million IOPS on random read. Its capacity is 30.72 TB, it has a guaranteed useful life of 2 million hours of use and it is available in different form factors.

If we talk about resistance to write cycles, Micron has confirmed that it can support a full write cycle per day on sequential loadsie one full unit fill per day, and 33% fill per day on random workloads.

On the other hand, Micron has also presented the units XTR-SSD, which are available in 960 GB and 1.92 TB capacities. By capacity they are less impressive, but these are designed to integrate in write-intensive environments. This becomes clear when we see that they are capable of withstanding up to 35 drive fills per day under random write loads.

We do not have specific details about the sale price of these new units, but seeing their benefits It is clear that it will be high. We hope that its general availability will be a reality starting in June.
