Microsoft resets Bing limits

The first weeks of the new Bing with Prometheus are turning out to be very interesting, with news almost daily and with Microsoft working really intensively in response to the substantial volume of feedback they are receiving from people who have gained beta access to new technology co-developed by Microsoft and OpenAI.

It is true, of course, that although the updates are carried out on a daily basis, many of them do not transcend as they do not entail appreciable changes in the chatbot, although it is possible that a much more in-depth analysis would allow us to identify some subtle difference. . However, other updates like the one from last Friday are more than noticeable. In that one, as we already told you, Microsoft introduced a limitation on the duration of conversations with Bing.

As Microsoft explained, the reason for this limitation is that some users found that in long conversations Bing tended to get confused, misinterpreting some questions and sometimes giving answers that did not fit the behavior that the company expects from its chatbot. Consequently, a limit of five chat turns per session and a total of 50 per day was established.

Microsoft resets Bing limits

This limit may seem high, but the truth is that the natural way of “chatting” with Bing can lead to longer conversations, since a response from you can lead to one or more related questions. We can understand that in its move late last week Microsoft decided to cut its losses and is now subsequently testing to see how far it can go in extending the length of talks without this having the repercussions we saw last week.

In this way, when only four days have passed since that change, Microsoft has readjusted the maximum duration of conversations with Bing again, and the good news is that, this time, it is an upward change. As we can read in the search engine’s blog, now the conversations will have a maximum of six chat turns, and the daily limit rises to sixty. As they affirm, with this increase it will allow a natural use of the chatbot for a large part of its users.

However, his plans do not stop there. As we can read his intention in the short term (although without dates at the moment) is to increase the chat turns to ten and raise the daily limit to one hundred, which should more than cover the needs of the vast majority. However, it is expected that in the medium term Microsoft and OpenAI will be able to solve the problems associated with long conversations, thus making it unnecessary to establish limits in this regard.
