Microsoft rolls out new AI-powered cloud services for telecom networks

Microsoft continues in its race to establish itself as the preferred option in the field of telecommunications. In this line, he has recently presented two innovative services powered by artificial intelligence and designed to streamline telecommunication networks. To do this, it will use the same capabilities used in the administration of the Azure cloud platform.

With the application of AI in telecommunications networks, Microsoft brings endless new business possibilities for companies and individuals, since will incorporate high-speed 5G network technology into all its operations. The incorporation of Microsoft’s 5G is not trivial, since it began as a result of the acquisition of cloud network companies such as Affirmed Networks and metaswitch last year 2020.

In this sense, the executive vice president of strategic missions and technologies of Microsoft, Jason zanderIt is clear and forceful. He considers that his company’s commitment is a clear example that demonstrates that AI can easily be incorporated into a network of telecom operatorsbringing all 5G technology to this new environment.

From now on, telecommunications partners such as AT&T Inc (TN), Ericsson (ERNT.ZA) and Nokia Oyj (NOKIA.HE) will get all the benefits of this new service that provides nexus from Microsoft and that will allow operators to manage their networks from the cloud and two ‘AlOps’ services completely differentiated. In this line, Monica Zethzonvice president of Ericsson, has ensured that the developments would allow operators to transform their core networks and improve the experiences of their potential customers.

Microsoft’s commitment to AI

It is infallible, since over the last few years it has invested heavily in this regard, especially as a result of the chatbot tool OpenAI ChatGPT. It therefore adds to the interest and great attention that AI is generating in Silicon Valley.

A few months ago, Microsoft assured that the inclusion of AI in all its products was set as a short-medium term objective, taking as a reference the main idea of OpenAI of create intelligence similar to that of humansbut applied to the most efficient machinery.

Microsoft has always bet on the responsible use of AI, in such a way that they have been incorporating this technology into their most outstanding products and services. So Microsoft AI, powered by Azure, delivers billions of experiences across Windows, Xbox, Microsoft 365, Teams, Azure AI, Power Platform, Dynamics 365, and Microsoft Defender. Microsoft’s AI application ranges from homes and private spheres to research labs and the agricultural sector.

Microsoft researchers have developed expertise in areas such as parallel computing, which allows people to quickly train machine learning models at a high scale. Thus, innovative elements have emerged such as DeepSpeedan open source deep learning optimization library for training distributed and developed by Microsoft Research.

Project Farm Vibes is in charge of fusing AI with data to offer open source tools that in turn help farmers adopt sustainable agricultural practices. Similarly, the Climate Research Initiative from Microsoft is another commitment to apply AI to the study of climate change. For its part, the new organization AI4Science applies deep learning to the natural sciences to predict natural phenomena and address issues such as climate change.

The horizon

Microsoft has been outlining the hybrid environment which will be the usual trend for the coming years. Algorithms and automation have gained weight in society and in applications that generate new business models. In fact, AI has improved by 50% the adoption and integration to commercial objectives, with a projection that by 2026 organizations will bet on AI engineering practices that generate their own algorithms.

The future of AI at Microsoft, according to its CTO, Kevin Scott, centers on move towards productivity, satisfaction and creativity, with scientific progress that helps to solve important challenges. Only then will cloud, infrastructure investments, and a consolidated approach to AI succeed.
