Microsoft’s Surface Dock 3 will be thinner, faster and more compatible

Microsoft will shortly market the Surface Dock 3, a docking station which has already been listed on eBay and which we like to begin with, since it will be thinner and lighter than previous generations, more compatible thanks to the universality of a port such as USB Type-C and with a fairly reasonable price below the barrier of 40 dollars.

Microsoft’s own-brand line of hardware, the Surface, hasn’t stopped getting better in recent years. If personal computers are the best known with the Surface Pro as the star as it is the great world reference in the ‘2 in 1’ category, it must be said that the Redmond firm offers other types of products such as peripherals and accessories.

The first ‘Dock’ in the series hit the market in 2015, with a second version in 2020. Now comes a Surface Dock 3 that users who require a useful and cheap expansion base will like. The big news is the removing the surface connect port. And it is quite a success… In the times we live in, manufacturers cannot go “on their own” and use proprietary connectors that are incompatible with the rest of the industry and that end up limiting their functionality. And the sales themselves.

In front of proprietary connectors, we see a port USB Type-C that will work with any brand of PC and that it will also be very fast thanks to the additional support for the Thunderbolt 4 from intel. The Surface Dock 3 will have two Type-C ports on the back and another two USB Type-A ports further increasing compatibility. On the front it also includes two ports, Type C and Type A, while the connection to the PC is made through a fixed USB Type-C cable.

Connectivity is completed with an Ethernet LAN port, headphone output, and a DC power jack. From what we see in the images posted on eBay it is noticeably thinner than previous generations.

To say that these expansion bases are very useful when we need to increase connectivity on the desktop and also allow better management of all cabling. The (unofficial) price of the new Microsoft dock is 39 dollars. Within everyone’s reach.
