Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has just announced that the brand is not expected to release as many high-end smartphones as in previous years in 2023. One series has just been canceled.
Xiaomi will launch in France in just a few days its new high-end smartphones Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro, which it launched last December in China. Apart from the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, which will arrive in the spring, the Chinese manufacturer is not expected to release many other high-end smartphones this year.
On the Weibo social network, Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, officially confirmed that the company will not release 13S series this year. Users looking for a high-end smartphone in 2023 therefore do not have to wait desperately for other high-end devices in the second half of the year.
No Xiaomi 13S, 13S Pro and 13S Ultra in 2023
Last year, Xiaomi launched a new series of high-end “S” smartphones, the Xiaomi 12S, 12S Pro, but especially the 12S Ultra, which had a lot of talk about it. These were the first smartphones designed in partnership with the German photo specialist: Leica.
After only one generation, this series will therefore not be renewed. For us, it does not change much, since we were not entitled to 12S last year. However, it is always interesting to see the manufacturer offering its latest technologies on new devices, even if these are only available in China.
The discontinuation of the S range this year could also be a corroborating clue to reports that indicated an advanced output of a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. Because of the lead on its schedule, Qualcomm wouldn’t release any overclocked Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 chips in the second half of the year, so a new series of smartphones would simply be less relevant.
With a Xiaomi 13 Ultra probably scheduled for April 2023, it is hard to imagine Xiaomi succeeding in offering an even more interesting smartphone in just a few months. The manufacturer will therefore pass directly to the next generation with the Xiaomi 14 by the end of the year in China, probably around November. We will then have to wait until early 2024 to see smartphones arrive in France.
