Oppo wants to reign in the mid-range of mobiles with the A78 5G

The Oppo A78 5G is one of those smartphones destined to definitively consecrate the “democratization” of 5G that began a couple of years ago. It has just been put up for sale in India and has plenty of arguments to compete in the disputed mid-range.

The world’s largest mobile seller that we use as an example, Samsung, sells more foldables than ever and in a couple of weeks it will present its new top-of-the-range Galaxy S23. But the smartphone market is much broader and the largest number of sales occur in another cheaper price range.

Oppo A78 5G, cheap and with enough features

This is where the new from Oppo comes in based on a touch screen of 6.56 inches diagonal, with a native resolution of 720 x 1612 pixels and a refresh rate of 90 Hz. It supports 96% of the NTSC color gamut and 100% of the DCI-P3 gamut, while its 600 nits of brightness should facilitate the use with guarantees outdoors with a lot of light.

It is powered by a chipset MediaTek Dimensity 700It is a well-proven development and sufficient performance for this market range with an eight-core CPU (two Cortex-A76 cores at 2.2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2 GHz) and a support for broadband networks fifth generation that is expanding in almost all world regions.

It is accompanied with 8 GB of RAM (expandable to 16 GB through virtual memory) and 128 Gbytes for internal storage that can also be expanded in this case with microSD cards. The camera system is more modest with a double sensor, although the main one will show good capabilities with 50 MP, plus another 2 MP for depth. The selfie camera is 8 MP.

Other newsworthy specs include IPX4-certified water resistance, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers, and a 5000 mAh battery which, according to Oppo, can be charged from 0 to 100% in 67 minutes via the included 33W SuperVOOC charger.

The Oppo A78 5G is available in India and we expect it very soon in the international market. It is distributed in black and blue finishes for an exchange price of around 230 dollars. Oppo delivers the terminal with the latest version of Google’s system, Android 13, and its own ColorOS 13 user interface.
